Instruktør: Elaine Maltezos
Elaine Maltezos (she/her) is a freelance sound engineer specialising in recording and live stage sound and is the technical manager at Bergen Kjøtt. Her career focus today is acoustic music recording, as well as being a live sound engineer for both music and theatre. She was born in Chicago, and grew up playing the viola in an orchestra. Becoming a singer-songwriter led her to a degree program at the University of Miami with a music engineering focus, where she switched to complete her degree in music composition and studio music production. Elaine has recorded and worked with several acoustic ensembles, artists and festivals, including Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Bergen National Opera, Bit20 Ensemble and Festspillene i Bergen.

About GRIP
GRIP is an ongoing series of courses to give more people the opportunity to gain practical experience and skills in sound engineering. Women, non-binary and transgender people are strongly underrepresented in this field – in 2022 it was reported that 93% of all technicians in Norway are cis-male. We want to change this. Between 2021-22, GRIP trained 141 people who wanted to gain more knowledge and confidence in sound technology. Flipping the statistic, 92% of the participants were women, non-binary and transgender people, and many are now working as professional sound technicians.
GRIP spring 2023 is a collaborative project between Bergen Kjøtt, BIT Teatergarasjen, Carte Blanche, AKKS Bergen and sound engineer Irene Bjørke. GRIP 2023 is organized with partners in Bergen including Borealis – a festival for experimental music, Landmark / Bergen kunsthall, Østre and Vill Vill Vest and is supported by Sparebanken Vest, Bergen municipality, Kulturrom, and apap-FEMINIST FUTURES (financed by the Creative Europe program in the EU).
